Chip Droege's Back

The January 2010 membership meeting of the Wisconsin Vintners Association will begin at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, January 13th, at Clifford's Restaurant, 10418 Forest Home Ave, in Hales Corners. Our speaker will be WVA member Chip Droege.  He will introduce us to wines made by two Wisconsin wineries - Simon Creek Vineyard and Winery, and Orchard Country Winery and Market. Sharp members will have a couple of wine glasses for the tasting portion of this program.

Every month we award a bottle of wine to one of our members who had dinner at Clifford’s prior to our meeting.  This month’s wine is from Vieux Chateau Negrit: a 2001 Montage- Saint - Emilion.  It is a red Bordeaux with “bright attractive fruit and a blend of cherries and plums in the nose; a fairly rich deep fruited red wine”.

President's Blog

The weather turned against us, so we had to cancel the December meeting. We will have to reschedule the critical tasting as we have some nice wines to taste. The dinner dance invitations should have been mailed by now. We are back at the Radisson Hotel on February 6th, 2010. Save the date. We can use lots of help. Please volunteer by calling chairwoman Joanne Ziarek or any board member.

The Radisson has donated a room for the night of the dinner dance. At our January meeting you will be able to purchase a $5.00 chance to win this room. The drawing will be held at the January meeting. I f you cannot attend you could call Sally Hasselkus to get you into the drawing.   Happy New Year to everyone.

The Dinner Dance Date is Fast Approaching

This year our annual dinner dance/fund raiser will be held on February 6, 2010, at the Radisson Hotel Milwaukee West, 2303 N. Mayfair Rd and across from the Mayfair shopping mall.  It's a very nice facility with ample parking, excellent food and facilities. They are offering us a special discount on the rooms of $89 per night plus tax.  Save the date and plan to make it a special weekend by staying overnight after the party, especially if you will be coming from a distance.  The party will begin at 6:00 PM with appetizers, games, and auctions. Dinner is at 7:00PM and live music and dancing starts at 8:00PM.  The games and auctions will continue throughout the evening.  Invitations will be mailed at the end of December so watch for yours.

Invite your friends and relatives and be sure to include their names on your RSVP card indicating who will be seated together.  The board decided to keep the cost down to $35 per person this year, though the cost to the club will be slightly higher.  We hope you will come with your friends and have fun playing the games and bidding on the auction items while helping our club raise the funds needed for our programs throughout the year.

Items are needed for the dinner dance silent auction. Auction items can either be purchased and donated, or may be handcrafted where you can show off your other talents!  Please bring your items to either the December 9th or January 13th membership meetings or get them to one of the board members by January 25.  Attach the name of the donor and the approximate dollar value to each donated item.  This will help with record keeping and will also give the set-up committee an idea for a minimum bid.  Please do NOT bring any items to the dinner on Saturday night because the set up will be completed the afternoon of that day.  If you have any questions please contact Joanne Ziarek who is again this year’s chairperson and is looking for a lot of help. Please let her know if you’d like to get involved.
