Cookout at the Lakefront Brewery

Our 6th annual pot luck cookout will be on Wednesday, July 8th starting at 5:30 PM, at the Lakefront Brewery patio which is along the Milwaukee River, with Russ Klisch, president, and his family as our host.  Bring a dish to pass (a salad, appetizer or dessert) plus something for yourself to grill, something to drink (wine anyone?) and your
own plates, napkins, utensils, etc.  We will have one charcoal grill (thanks to Henry Maksimowicz) and one gas grill (thanks to Jim Remus).  If someone else can bring a grill, please call Tom at 262-241-6638.

To thank Russ for his hospitality, please bring an extra bottle of your homemade finest as a thank you gift.  Don’t be surprised if some of the brewery’s own East Side Dark is available to sample as well. There is no official club program this evening, just an opportunity for some good fellowship in a pleasant place on a pleasant evening. We will also have a brief tour of the brewery with Russ if there is enough interest.

The Lakefront Brewery’s address is 1872 N. Commerce St, Milwaukee. Commerce Street is south of North Avenue, and a few blocks east of the stoplight at E. Pleasant and Commerce.

President's Blog

The June meeting trip to the Wollersheim Winery was well attended.  Thanks to our hosts Philippe and Julie.  We had a winery tour with Philippe answering all of our questions.  Philippe then conducted a “training” session with tastings of water with sugar, acid, tannin, oak, vinegar added, and then a taste of Prairie Fume.  We then had a picnic in the picnic shelter.  If you have never been to the winery it is worth a trip as it is a beautiful location.

We are now into our summer activities with two social events planned.  July will be the evening picnic at the Lakefront Brewery along the Milwaukee river.  If the weather cooperates, this is a great place for a picnic.  In August we have our club picnic where the food is good, the games are competitive with plenty of socializing.

Have a great summer.    Howard Hasselkus

August Club Picnic

The August 2009 Annual WVA Picnic will be held this year on Saturday, August 15th at the Fox River Park in Waukesha, rain or shine!  We will have use of a large shelter with bathrooms.  Note that there will be a nominal charge to get into the park.

The club will furnish roasted sweet corn, roast chicken. Al Downs will again bring his delightful red and white wine slushes for us to enjoy.  You should bring your own eating utensils, plates, a dish to pass, and of course a few bottles of your finest to share.
We’ll start the festivities at 11 AM and eat about noon, as the corn comes off the grill. There will also be games to play and prizes for the winners.  Use this registration form to sign up for this event.  Registration deadline is August 11th.
