The Stresses of Fermentation on Wine Yeasts
The October 2008
membership meeting of the Wisconsin Vintners Association will begin
at 7:30 PM on
Wednesday, October 1st
at
Clifford's Restaurant, 10418
Forest Home Ave, Hales Corners, WI.
Gunnard Jacobson of Red Star Yeast
will be the presenter and he will talk about the stresses
associated with fermentation, and will provide information on the
selection of yeast for various wines, preparation of the yeast, and
nutrient requirements. Please come with your yeast and fermentation
related questions. This is perfect time of year for this
presentation, as the fall fermentation season is at hand.
Please plan on joining Gunnard and other WVA members for dinner at
Clifford’s starting around 6:00 PM. It’s the club’s way of saying
thanks to Jack for letting us use the hall for our meetings (just
try to find a restaurant that will allow you to bring in your own
wines without a corkage fee). Like every month, all diners will be
eligible for the monthly door prize, this month a full-bodied
Bouchon 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, provided by the club.
President's Blog
Well, the gadgets and gizmos came out of the wine
cellars for our September meeting. About one dozen members demonstrated their
ideas to make winemaking easier. Thanks to Glenn Cooper for providing the
cheese and bread for the meeting and to Deborah Stankus for signing up
volunteers to provide cheese and bread for the rest of our meetings.
Remember our next meeting is October 1st which is one week earlier the usual. We
only had 11 members eating at Clifford's before the meeting. The speaker
from Red Star Yeast will be dining with us at the next meeting, so it would be a
good way to meet him and talk about yeast if you could eat with us.
The October meeting is when we start the Potpourri wine for the 2010 dinner
dance. Bring a quart or more of some kind of fruit for Jerry Wante to
work with. The Harvest Dinner on November 16th is all set to go so get your
reservations in.

Annual Harvest Dinner
Sunday, November 16, 2008
is the date for our annual Harvest Dinner and will be held at
Clifford's Restaurant.
It’s always an enjoyable evening with good food and good wine
(you’ll bring your best to show it off). Doors open at 5:00 PM with
appetizers and the grand buffet dinner is served at 6:00. There will
be raffles, games and door prizes throughout the evening. It’s a
great deal, only $10.00 per person, as half of the cost of the meal
is paid by the club's general fund. As a thank you to Jack for
allowing us to hold our monthly membership meetings at Clifford’s
for no charge, please consider bringing an extra bottle of your home
wine as a gift to him. Please use this

Club Dues Time
It's the start of the club's 39th year and that
means it's dues time. The cost of a membership remains at $15.00 for a
year of informative meetings, wine tastings, access to grapes and juice, other
subsidized club events and just plain fun with people bonding together with a
similar passion, home winemaking. Please send your check, payable to
